ABOUT US

E.Bees is an inclusive and successful basketball club based in East Burwood.

We believe that basketball is a sport available equally to boys & girls.

E.Bees strive for a club culture that enables kids to have fun while supporting players at all levels to be the best they can be.

We provide opportunity for kids to engage in physical activity, develop friendships, build their skills and most importantly enjoy their sport!

Club History

In 1976 Laurie Gabell entered one Under 10 Boys team in the Melbourne East Basketball Association competition for Summer 1976/77. This team, coached by Laurie, made the final four with a win in the last game of the season and then went on to win the Grand Final. The one team grew to four for the next season and with numerous enquiries coming in Laurie felt the time had come to call for help and so the Club was formed.

On 18 August 1977 at the Benwerrin Pre-School Kindergarten in East Burwood, the inaugural meeting was held to form the E.Bees Junior Basketball Club. From the 25 people who attended the first Committee was elected.

The name “E.Bees” was derived from the association name used by the group of local people from the East Burwood area who came together to build the Benwerrin Pre-School Kindergarten.

The E.Bees Junior Basketball Club was formally incorporated on 18 September 1986 under the Associations Incorporations Act 1981.

It continues to this day, to provide excellent basketball enjoyment, high quality skills training opportunities and basketball guidance  to the hundreds of boys and girls who currently make up the E.Bees Junior Basketball Club. E.Bees players have gone on to play Representative, State and even National level Basketball.

From its “one” team start in 1976, the E.Bees Junior Basketball Club has developed into a well-respected and successful basketball club.
